Due to popular demand I have finally put this up.
As I am sure you know, there is very little if any "trunk" space in F-bodies. The box for my sub is from a pickup so it fits the trunk nicely. The problem arose when it put the box in my Formula with the power hatch. The hatch assembly takes up even more room from this already cramped area. I had the amp mounted to the back of the box but it would not sit flat on the floor. I also wanted to add another amp for the regular speakers. There was no way I was going to have 1 let alone 2 amps sitting on the back deck.. besides that is where the t-tops go!
I based my design from a fellow member of Thirdgen.org. His design completely got rid of any hopes of a comfortable rid in the back seat. The way I mounted the amps enabled me to reuse 80% of the padding so you can't even feel them! Another plus is that the poor bastard(s) that sit back there in the winter get heated seats.
Enough babbling...

Amps mounted
As you can see the 1 Farad cap fits nicely between the amps. The PPI (right) is perminantly mounted to the seat frame. The SONY is mounted on hinges. Since this is the main speaker amp I need to be able to tweak the settings. The hinges allow me to flip the amp up and adjust whatever I need to. The fitment isn't as pretty but I don't mind. |

Wiring Hell!!
This was not fun. I have: 2 sets of patch cables, power wires, speaker wires, activation wires all going to and from this seat. Amazingly there is NO signal interference!

Finished but not covered
Just a basic view before the padding and seat cover was put back on. |

Installed with the seat down
The final product in all it's glory. As you can see, the PPI looks awesome! (thanks) You can see a little of the padding around the sides of the SONY though. It was such a drawn out process that I havn't touched it since. The actual project doesn't take very long. I completed this in my spare time (late at night, lots of coffee) so it took me longer.

Huh? What are those?
Even if I didn't have the security cover I doubt you would notice. There is a good 3/4" gap between the amps and the carpet. I have had NO overheating problems what-so-ever. I even ran the system for awhile before I cut the sections out of the seat cover. |
